Tyre Safety

Tyres keep us connected to the road. They help the car keep grip in the corners, help prevent wheelspin on acceleration and help the car to stop during braking. If your tyre pressures are too high or low, this will affect all of these aspects and it could cost you your life. If your tyres do not have sufficient tread, this can be fatal. the tread promtes grip and also pumps water away on wet roads. If you have worn tread on wet roads, the car will start to sit on top of the water as the tyre cannot disperse the water quick enough. This is called aquaplanning, when in this situation, you have little to no control of the vehicle and is extemely dangerous.

Tyre Pressures   UK Tyre Law

Keep your tyres to the correct pressure.Low tyre pressures will cost you more in fuel and will also cause the tyre to wear prematurely and unevenly. High tyre pressures make the tyre more suceptible to blow outs 7 punctures and can reduce grip in cornering & braking

UK law states that the minimum tread depth is 1.6mm across the central ¾ of the tread around the complete circumference of the tyre. It is also a legal requirement to ensure that tyres of different construction types are not fitted to opposite sides of the same axle. The two main tyre types are radial and cross-ply, and these must not be mixed on the same axle.
